[c=#2dba69]Elyra's Diary - Part 3
The Watchers' Song[/c]

[c=#e3aaeb]23rd Mistdawn, Year 342 of the Era of Remembrance[/c]

I heard a melody before I even saw the creature carrying it. Three notes, repeated, that I knew by heart - Kael used to sing them during winter vigils, when we were children and afraid of the dark together.

I struck it down faster than the others. I didn't want that melody to stop before delivering what it carried.

A child's voice - hers, perhaps, distorted by all that time - murmured:
"I've forgotten my name, but my song still knows me."

I found a broken flute at its feet, carved from blackened wood. Cracked, but recognizable.
"What is sung without a voice teaches without a word."

I cried, this time. For the first time since this hunt began.

A week later, a different encounter - a creature that barely moved, that didn't even seem to try to attack me. A cold, almost weary voice:
"I was not buried. I waited. Not for death, but for memory."

I found a black medallion on it, almost weightless. Since I've carried it, the ankh no longer burns the same way - more deeply, as if it were saving something for later.

In my bag: a drowned pebble, a fire-stone, a broken flute, a silent medallion, and the memory of Kael that never leaves me.

I feel I'm getting closer. I don't know to what. But my body knows before my mind does.
